Pump Problems? We Get Your Water Moving Again.
Well pump and sump pump repair and replacement throughout the Triad.

When Your Pump Fails, Everything Stops
If your well pump dies, you have no water — no showers, no toilets, no faucets. If your sump pump fails, your basement floods. These aren’t problems that can wait.
Pump work is one of our specialties at All-Star Plumbing. Many Triad homes — especially in rural Guilford, Forsyth, and Davidson counties — rely on well water. And any home with a basement needs a working sump pump, particularly during our rainy seasons.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, more than 43 million Americans rely on private wells for their water supply. In the Triad, that includes a significant portion of homes outside city water service areas. We understand well systems and the pumps that make them work.
Pump Services We Provide
We repair and replace the pumps that keep water flowing in & out of your home.
No water pressure? No water at all? Pump cycling on and off constantly? These are signs your well pump or pressure system needs attention.
We work on all well pump types — submersible pumps (down in the well), jet pumps (above ground), and the pressure tanks and switches that control them. Deep wells, shallow wells, old systems, new systems — we’ve seen it all.
- Common well pump issues: No water, low pressure, pump won't shut off, pump short-cycling, air spurting from faucets, high electric bills from overworking pump.
- Brands we service: Myers, Goulds, Grundfos, Franklin Electric, Sta-Rite, and others.
Sump pumps keep your basement dry by pumping out groundwater before it floods your space. When they fail — and you find out during a storm — the damage adds up fast.
We repair and replace primary sump pumps, battery backup systems, and sewage ejector pumps (for basement bathrooms). If your pump is making noise, running constantly, or not running at all, call us before the next heavy rain.
- Common sump pump issues: Pump not turning on, running constantly, making grinding noises, tripping breaker, or failing during storms.
- Brands we service: Zoeller, Liberty, Wayne, Superior, and others.
Other Pump Services
- Pressure tank replacement — Waterlogged tanks cause pump short-cycling and premature failure
- Pressure switch repair — Controls when pump turns on and off
- Well pump installation — New wells or full system replacement
- Sewage ejector pumps — For basement bathrooms below sewer line
- Battery backup installation — Keeps sump pump running during power outages
- Pump diagnostics — Figuring out why your water system isn’t working right
Understanding Your Well Pump System
If you’re on well water, here’s what’s happening behind the scenes.
Submersible Pumps
Most modern wells use submersible pumps — the pump sits at the bottom of the well, submerged in water. Quiet, efficient, and long-lasting (15-25 years typical), but when they fail, pulling them up for repair or replacement requires specialized equipment.
Jet Pumps
Jet pumps sit above ground and use suction to draw water up. Easier to access for repairs but less efficient for deep wells. Common in older systems or shallow wells.
Common in: Shallow wells under 25 feet, older installations.
Pressure Tanks
The pressure tank stores water and maintains consistent pressure so your pump doesn’t run every time you turn on a faucet. When the tank’s bladder fails (waterlogged tank), the pump short-cycles — turning on and off constantly, which burns out the pump.
Pressure Switches
The pressure switch tells the pump when to turn on (pressure drops) and off (pressure restored). When it fails or gets corroded, the pump may not run at all or may run continuously.

Why Professional Pump Service Matters
- Proper Diagnosis Saves Money
A pressure tank replacement costs a fraction of a new pump. A pressure switch is even less. We diagnose accurately so you don’t replace parts you don’t need.
- Well Work Requires Equipment
Pulling a submersible pump from a 200-foot well isn’t a DIY job. We have the equipment and experience to do it safely without damaging your well.
- Correct Sizing Matters
A pump that’s too small won’t keep up. One that’s too large wastes energy and wears out faster. We size pumps correctly for your well depth and household demand.
- Prevent Bigger Problems
A short-cycling pump burns out fast. A failing sump pump leads to flood damage. Fixing pump issues promptly prevents expensive secondary damage.
- Basement Protection
For sump pumps, failure means flooding — and flood damage gets expensive fast. A working pump with battery backup protects your basement and everything in it.

Pump Questions
How long do well pumps last?
Submersible pumps typically last 15-25 years. Jet pumps 10-15 years. Lifespan depends on water quality, usage, and whether the pressure tank is working correctly.
How much does well pump replacement cost?
It varies based on pump type, well depth, and system condition. Submersible pump replacement typically runs $1,500-$4,000+ depending on depth. We quote before starting.
How long do sump pumps last?
Sump pumps typically last 7-10 years. If yours is older or running frequently, consider proactive replacement before it fails during a storm.
Do I need a battery backup for my sump pump?
If losing power during storms is a concern — and it should be — yes. Battery backup keeps your sump pump running when the power goes out, which is exactly when you need it most.
Why is my well pump short-cycling?
Almost always a waterlogged pressure tank. The bladder inside the tank has failed, so it can’t hold pressure. Replacing the tank is much cheaper than replacing the pump — but if you ignore it, you’ll eventually need both.
Can you work on deep wells?
Yes. We have the equipment to pull and replace submersible pumps from deep wells. We work on wells of all depths throughout the Triad.
What brands do you install?
Myers, Goulds, Grundfos, Franklin Electric for well pumps. Zoeller, Liberty, Wayne for sump pumps. Quality brands with solid warranties.
