When Regular Drain Cleaning Isn't Enough

A drain cable clears a path through a clog. Hydro jetting clears the entire pipe. High-pressure water — up to 4,000 PSI — blasts through blockages and scours pipe walls clean. Grease, roots, scale, and years of buildup are flushed away, not just punched through.

All-Star Plumbing provides hydro jetting services throughout High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and the Triad. We use professional hydro jetting equipment for severe drain problems, commercial kitchens, main sewer lines, and situations where conventional cleaning won’t get the job done.

Hydro jetting doesn’t just clear clogs — it restores pipes to near-original flow capacity. For commercial properties with recurring drain issues, hydro jetting is often the solution that finally works.

How Hydro Jetting Works

Hydro jetting uses specialized equipment to deliver high-pressure water into your drain system.

The Equipment

A hydro jetter consists of a water tank, high-pressure pump, specialized hose, and nozzle. The pump generates pressures from 1,500 to 4,000+ PSI depending on the application.

The Nozzle

Specialized nozzles direct water jets forward and backward. Forward jets cut through blockages; rear-facing jets propel the hose forward and scour pipe walls clean.

The Process

We access the drain through a cleanout, insert the jetting hose, and work through the pipe. High-pressure water blasts away buildup while the debris flushes downstream.

We typically inspect the camera before hydro jetting. This confirms the pipe can handle jetting (no damage that could worsen) and identifies what we’re dealing with.

When to Use Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting isn’t always necessary, but it’s the best choice for certain situations.

Heavy Grease Buildup

Restaurant drain lines, commercial kitchens, and any pipe with significant grease accumulation. Cables punch through grease; hydro jetting removes it from pipe walls.

Tree Root Intrusion

Hydro jetting cuts through roots and flushes them out. Combined with root-killing treatment, it’s an effective maintenance approach for root-prone lines.

Recurring Clogs

If the same drain keeps clogging despite regular cleaning, buildup on pipe walls is likely the cause. Hydro jetting removes the buildup, not just the symptom.

Mineral Scale and Deposits

Hard water deposits and mineral scale restrict flow over time. Hydro jetting blasts away scale that cables can’t remove.

Pre-Pipe Lining Preparation

Before pipe lining (trenchless repair), the pipe interior must be thoroughly cleaned. Hydro jetting prepares the surface for liner adhesion.

Commercial Drain Maintenance

High-traffic commercial facilities benefit from scheduled hydro jetting. Preventive cleaning keeps drains flowing and prevents emergency backups.

Hydro Jetting vs. Traditional Drain Cleaning

Both methods have their place. Here’s when each makes sense.

Best for: Simple clogs, hair blockages, soft obstructions, routine clearing.

How it works: Rotating cable breaks through clog, creating a path for water.

Limitation: Clears a hole but doesn’t clean pipe walls. Buildup remains.

Best for: Grease, roots, scale, severe buildup, commercial drains, recurring problems.

How it works: High-pressure water scours entire pipe interior clean.

Result: Pipe restored to near-original capacity. Longer time before problems return.

Hydro jetting costs more per service than cable cleaning. But if cable cleaning every few months isn’t solving the problem, one hydro jetting service may be more cost-effective long-term.

Hydro Jetting Applications

We use hydro jetting for residential and commercial drain systems.

Grease buildup is constant in food service. Scheduled hydro jetting keeps kitchen drains flowing and helps maintain health code compliance.

When the main line has heavy buildup, roots, or scale, hydro jetting clears the entire line — not just the immediate blockage.

Commercial floor drains in kitchens, breweries, car washes, and industrial facilities accumulate debris. Hydro jetting clears them thoroughly.

Most residential clogs don’t need hydro jetting. But for severe buildup, root problems, or persistent issues, it’s available for homeowners too.

We adjust pressure for pipe type and condition. Hydro jetting is safe for pipes in good condition. We camera inspect first to check for damage that could worsen.

Most jobs take 1-2 hours including inspection. Longer commercial lines take more time.

For severe buildup, grease, roots, or recurring problems — yes. For simple clogs, snaking is usually sufficient and less expensive.

Depends on usage. Restaurant drains may need quarterly or annual service. Residential main lines with root issues may benefit from annual jetting. We recommend based on your situation.

Yes. Hydro jetting cuts through and flushes out roots. It’s not permanent — roots regrow — but combined with root treatment, it’s effective maintenance.

Yes. We set up maintenance schedules for commercial clients — restaurants, food processing, car washes, and other facilities with heavy drain demands.
