When the Drain Won't Drain, Call a Plumber

Slow drains are annoying. Clogged drains stop your day. And that bottle of drain cleaner from the hardware store? It often makes things worse — chemical cleaners can damage pipes and rarely clear serious blockages.

All-Star Plumbing clears drains throughout High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and the Triad. Kitchen sinks, bathroom drains, floor drains, main lines — we have the equipment to clear blockages and get water flowing again.

According to plumbing industry data, drain clogs are the most common reason homeowners call a plumber. We handle dozens of drain calls every week. We’ve seen every type of clog and know how to clear them efficiently.

Drains We Clean

We clean every drain in your home — and commercial properties too.

Kitchen Sink Drains

Grease, food particles, and soap buildup are the usual culprits. Kitchen drains see heavy use and clog frequently.

What we do: Clear the blockage, clean the drain, and advise on preventing future clogs.

Bathroom Sink Drains

Hair, soap scum, toothpaste, and grooming products accumulate in bathroom drains.

What we do: Remove the clog and clean buildup from pipe walls.

Shower and Tub Drains

Hair is the #1 cause of shower and tub clogs. It combines with soap to form stubborn blockages.

What we do: Clear the hair clog, often with a drain cable or specialized tools.

Toilet Drains

Paper clogs, foreign objects (kids flush things), or partial blockages in the drain line.

What we do: Clear the clog with auger or cable. If recurring, camera inspection to check the line.

Floor Drains

Basement, garage, laundry room, and utility floor drains can clog with debris, sediment, or sewage backup.

What we do: Clear and flush the drain. If it’s backing up, we check the main line.

Main Drain Line

The main line carries waste from all fixtures to the sewer or septic. When it clogs, everything backs up.

What we do:Clear with drain cable or hydro jetting. Camera inspection if needed to identify root cause.

Outdoor and Yard Drains

French drains, catch basins, and yard drains can clog with leaves, dirt, and debris.

What we do:Clear the blockage and flush the line.

How We Clear Drains

Different clogs need different approaches. We use professional methods that actually work.

A flexible metal cable with a cutting head that breaks through clogs and clears blockages. The standard method for most residential clogs.

Best for: Hair clogs, paper blockages, soft obstructions.

Larger, more powerful than a hand snake. Used for tougher clogs and longer runs.

Best for: Main line clogs, stubborn blockages.

High-pressure water (3,000-4,000 PSI) blasts through blockages and scours pipe walls clean. The most thorough cleaning method.

Best for: Grease buildup, heavy scale, root intrusion, commercial drains.

Video camera inspection shows us exactly what’s causing the clog — buildup, roots, damage, foreign objects.

When we use it: Recurring clogs, main line issues, or when we need to see the pipe condition.

Why We Don't Recommend Chemical Drain Cleaners

That bottle of Drano from the store? Here’s why we don’t recommend it.

Chemical drain cleaners generate heat through chemical reactions. This can soften PVC pipes and corrode metal pipes over time.

Chemical cleaners may dissolve hair or grease near the drain opening, but they rarely clear significant blockages. The clog often returns.

Strong chemicals can burn skin and eyes, release toxic fumes, and create dangerous reactions if mixed with other products.

If chemicals are sitting in a clogged drain when we arrive, we have to work around caustic substances. It’s a safety issue.

Mechanical cleaning for cables, augers, hydro jetting that will physically remove your clog. It’s more effective, safer for pipes, and solves the problem.
