Gas Work Requires a Licensed Professional

Gas leaks are dangerous. Improper installation is dangerous. This isn’t work for handymen or DIY projects — it requires a licensed plumber who understands gas systems, pressure testing, and code requirements.

All-Star Plumbing handles gas line repair and installation throughout High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and the Triad. Whether you smell gas and need an emergency repair, or you’re adding a gas line for a new stove or dryer, we do it safely and to code.

According to the American Gas Association, natural gas serves more than 187 million Americans in over 76 million homes. It’s efficient and cost-effective — but only when installed and maintained properly.

Gas Line Services We Provide

Gas Leak Detection & Repair

We locate gas leaks using specialized equipment and repair them properly. This includes leaks at fittings, valves, appliance connections, and in the line itself. All repairs are pressure tested before restoring gas service.

Common leak locations: Pipe fittings, shut-off valves, flexible connectors, appliance connections, and corroded sections.

Gas Line Installation

Adding a gas stove, dryer, fireplace, outdoor grill, or generator? We run new gas lines from your existing supply to the new appliance location. Properly sized for the BTU demand, properly supported, and properly connected.

Common installations: Gas range/stove, gas dryer, gas fireplace, outdoor gas grill, tankless water heater, standby generator.

Gas Line Replacement

Older homes may have corroded, undersized, or outdated gas lines. We replace deteriorated sections or upgrade the entire system as needed.

Appliance Hookup & Disconnection

New gas appliance that needs connecting? Old one that needs disconnecting safely? We handle the gas connection properly — including the flexible connector, shut-off valve, and leak testing.

Gas Shut-Off Valve Installation

Every gas appliance should have an accessible shut-off valve. If yours doesn’t — or the valve is old and hard to operate — we install new ones.

Common Gas Line Projects

Here’s what homeowners typically call us for.

Switching from electric to gas cooking? We run a new gas line to your kitchen and connect the range. Gas cooking provides instant heat control and is preferred by many home cooks.

What’s involved: Running line from existing gas supply, installing shut-off valve, connecting flexible connector, testing for leaks.

Gas dryers are more efficient than electric and dry faster. If you’re switching or adding a gas dryer, we run the line and make the connection.

What’s involved: Running line to laundry area, installing shut-off valve, connecting dryer.

Tired of running out of propane? A natural gas line to your outdoor kitchen or grill means unlimited fuel. We run the line from your home’s gas supply to your outdoor cooking area.

What’s involved: Determining proper line size for BTU demand, trenching if needed, connecting to grill.

Tankless water heaters often require larger gas lines than traditional tank heaters — they have higher BTU demands. We size and install the proper line to ensure adequate gas flow.

What’s involved: Assessing existing gas supply, upgrading line size if needed, connecting to unit.

Standby generators run on natural gas or propane. We connect them to your home’s gas supply so they start automatically during outages.

What’s involved: Running dedicated line to generator, proper sizing for generator demand.

Gas Line Safety & Code Compliance

Gas work isn’t something to cut corners on. Here’s how we approach it.

Every gas line repair and installation is pressure tested before gas is turned on. We pressurize the line and monitor for drops — any pressure loss indicates a leak that must be fixed.

We use approved materials — black iron pipe, CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing) where appropriate, and proper fittings. No substitutions, no shortcuts.

Gas line work must meet state and local codes. We understand the requirements and ensure our work passes inspection. Permits are pulled when required.

Gas lines must be sized for the BTU demand of the appliances they serve. Undersized lines cause poor appliance performance. We calculate the load and size lines correctly.

Gas Line Questions

How much does gas line installation cost?

It depends on the length of the run, complexity, and what’s being connected. Simple appliance hookup with existing nearby line: a few hundred dollars. Running a new line across the house or outside: more. We quote before starting.

Depends on the location and extent of the leak. Minor fitting repair is on the lower end. Replacing a section of corroded pipe costs more. We diagnose first and quote before repair.

Often, yes. New gas line installations typically require permits and inspections. Repairs may or may not depending on scope and local requirements. We handle permits when required.

We don’t recommend it. Gas work requires proper materials, techniques, and testing. Improper installation creates explosion and carbon monoxide risks. This is work for licensed professionals.

Rotten egg smell is the most common sign. Hissing sounds near gas lines, dead vegetation over buried lines, and unexplained high gas bills are other indicators. If you suspect a leak, call us to inspect.

If the smell is strong: leave the house immediately, don’t operate electrical switches or devices, and call 911 or your gas company from outside. Once cleared, call us to locate and repair the leak.

Yes — if you have natural gas service to your home. We run a gas line to your kitchen, you purchase a gas range, and we connect it. You’ll also need the electric outlet capped.
