Washing Machine Leaking or Not Draining? We Fix the Plumbing.
Leaks, drain problems, supply lines, and new hookups — washer plumbing throughout the Triad.

Washing Machine Problems? Start With a Plumber.
When your washing machine floods the laundry room or won’t drain, the problem is often plumbing — not the machine itself. Burst supply hoses, clogged drain lines, and failed connections cause most washer water disasters.
All-Star Plumbing handles washing machine plumbing throughout High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and the Triad. We fix leaks, clear drains, replace supply hoses, and install hookups for new machines. If it involves water going into or out of your washer, we handle it.
According to insurance industry data, washing machine supply hose failures are one of the leading causes of residential water damage claims. A burst hose can release hundreds of gallons before you notice — that’s why we recommend braided stainless steel hoses over rubber.
Washer Problems a Plumber Can Fix
Here’s what’s plumbing — and what we handle.
Water Leaking From Behind Washer
- What it means: Supply hose leak, drain hose leak, or connection failure. This is the most common washer plumbing emergency.
- Plumber fix: We find the leak source and repair it. Often it's a supply hose — we replace it with braided stainless steel hoses that won't burst.
- Why it matters: A burst supply hose can dump 500+ gallons per hour. Fast response prevents major damage.
Washer Won't Drain or Drains Slowly
- What it means: Clogged drain hose, blocked standpipe, or drain line obstruction.
- Plumber fix: We clear the drain path — hose, standpipe, and drain line if needed.
- Note: If the pump isn't running at all, that may be an appliance issue.
Water Overflows From Standpipe
- What it means: Drain line can't handle the flow — clog, undersized pipe, or venting issue.
- Plumber fix: We clear the drain line and check pipe sizing. Older homes sometimes have undersized standpipes that can't keep up with modern high-efficiency washers.
Washer Won't Fill With Water
- What it means: Supply valves are off, hoses are kinked, or inlet screens are clogged.
- Plumber fix: We check valves, hoses, and screens. If supply is fine, the inlet valve on the machine may need attention (sometimes plumber, sometimes appliance tech).
Supply Hoses Are Old or Bulging
- What it means: Rubber hoses deteriorate over time. Bulging means the hose is about to fail.
- Plumber Fix: We replace old rubber hoses with braided stainless steel — they last longer and won't burst.
- Recommendation: Replace rubber supply hoses every 3-5 years, or upgrade to braided stainless steel.
Need to Install or Relocate Washer Hookups
- What it means: Moving laundry room, adding washer to new location, or installing hookups in a home that doesn't have them.
- Plumber fix: We install hot and cold supply valves, drain standpipe, and proper venting.

Why Supply Hose Replacement Matters
This is the #1 thing you can do to prevent washing machine water damage.
- Rubber Hoses Fail
Standard rubber supply hoses deteriorate over time — they crack, bulge, and eventually burst. Most manufacturers recommend replacing them every 3-5 years.
- Braided Stainless Steel Is Better
Braided stainless steel hoses have a rubber core wrapped in braided metal. They’re much more resistant to bursting and last significantly longer.
- Auto-Shutoff Hoses Exist
Some braided hoses include an auto-shutoff feature that stops water flow if the hose detects a sudden pressure drop (burst). Extra protection for peace of mind.
- We Replace Hoses Affordably
Supply hose replacement is quick and inexpensive. We can do it while handling any other washer plumbing issue — or as a standalone service.
Washer Hookup Installation
Need hookups where there aren’t any? Or relocating your laundry room? Here’s what’s involved.
- What Washer Hookups Include
- Hot water supply valve — Connects to hot water line
- Cold water supply valve — Connects to cold water line
- Drain standpipe — 2″ pipe that accepts washer drain hose
- Proper venting — Prevents drain issues
- Outlet box (optional) — Recessed box that keeps connections neat
- Adding Hookups to New Location
We run supply lines from existing hot and cold water, install shut-off valves, and connect to your drain system with proper venting. Location determines complexity — basement and first floor are usually easier than upstairs.
- Typical Timeline
Simple hookup installation: half day to full day depending on access and distance from existing plumbing. We’ll assess and give you a timeline with your quote.

Washing Machine Questions
How much does washer hookup installation cost?
It varies based on location and how far from existing plumbing. Simple installations run a few hundred dollars. Running lines to a new location costs more. We quote after assessing your situation.
How much does supply hose replacement cost?
Supply hose replacement is one of our most affordable services — typically under $150 including quality braided stainless steel hoses. Quick job, big peace of mind.
Why is my washer leaking from behind?
Most common cause: supply hose failure or loose connection. Could also be drain hose leak. We find the source and fix it — usually a quick repair.
Why does water overflow from my standpipe?
The drain can’t handle the flow. Usually a clog in the line, but sometimes the standpipe is undersized (common in older homes). We clear the clog and assess if upsizing is needed.
How often should I replace washer hoses?
Rubber hoses: every 3-5 years. Braided stainless steel: check annually, replace if showing wear, but they typically last much longer. We recommend upgrading to braided stainless.
Can you move my washer hookups to a different room?
Yes. We run new supply and drain lines to the new location. Complexity depends on distance and access. We’ll assess and quote.
My washer won't fill with water. Is that plumbing?
It could be. If the supply valves are closed, hoses are kinked, or inlet screens are clogged — that’s plumbing. If valves are open and water is available but the machine won’t take it, that’s likely appliance (inlet valve or control issue).
