Washing Machine Problems? Start With a Plumber.

When your washing machine floods the laundry room or won’t drain, the problem is often plumbing — not the machine itself. Burst supply hoses, clogged drain lines, and failed connections cause most washer water disasters.

All-Star Plumbing handles washing machine plumbing throughout High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and the Triad. We fix leaks, clear drains, replace supply hoses, and install hookups for new machines. If it involves water going into or out of your washer, we handle it.

According to insurance industry data, washing machine supply hose failures are one of the leading causes of residential water damage claims. A burst hose can release hundreds of gallons before you notice — that’s why we recommend braided stainless steel hoses over rubber.

Why Supply Hose Replacement Matters

This is the #1 thing you can do to prevent washing machine water damage.

Standard rubber supply hoses deteriorate over time — they crack, bulge, and eventually burst. Most manufacturers recommend replacing them every 3-5 years.

Braided stainless steel hoses have a rubber core wrapped in braided metal. They’re much more resistant to bursting and last significantly longer.

Cost: A few dollars more than rubber. Worth every penny.

Some braided hoses include an auto-shutoff feature that stops water flow if the hose detects a sudden pressure drop (burst). Extra protection for peace of mind.

Supply hose replacement is quick and inexpensive. We can do it while handling any other washer plumbing issue — or as a standalone service.

Washer Hookup Installation

Need hookups where there aren’t any? Or relocating your laundry room? Here’s what’s involved.

  • Hot water supply valve — Connects to hot water line
  • Cold water supply valve — Connects to cold water line
  • Drain standpipe — 2″ pipe that accepts washer drain hose
  • Proper venting — Prevents drain issues
  • Outlet box (optional) — Recessed box that keeps connections neat

We run supply lines from existing hot and cold water, install shut-off valves, and connect to your drain system with proper venting. Location determines complexity — basement and first floor are usually easier than upstairs.

Simple hookup installation: half day to full day depending on access and distance from existing plumbing. We’ll assess and give you a timeline with your quote.

Washing Machine Questions

How much does washer hookup installation cost?

It varies based on location and how far from existing plumbing. Simple installations run a few hundred dollars. Running lines to a new location costs more. We quote after assessing your situation.

Supply hose replacement is one of our most affordable services — typically under $150 including quality braided stainless steel hoses. Quick job, big peace of mind.

Most common cause: supply hose failure or loose connection. Could also be drain hose leak. We find the source and fix it — usually a quick repair.

The drain can’t handle the flow. Usually a clog in the line, but sometimes the standpipe is undersized (common in older homes). We clear the clog and assess if upsizing is needed.

Rubber hoses: every 3-5 years. Braided stainless steel: check annually, replace if showing wear, but they typically last much longer. We recommend upgrading to braided stainless.

Yes. We run new supply and drain lines to the new location. Complexity depends on distance and access. We’ll assess and quote.

It could be. If the supply valves are closed, hoses are kinked, or inlet screens are clogged — that’s plumbing. If valves are open and water is available but the machine won’t take it, that’s likely appliance (inlet valve or control issue).
